Thursday night in the NHL
Seattle surged in Detroit, Columbus picked up a shootout win, and the Ducks rolled in Winnipeg to headline a four-game NHL slate.
The NHL offered up four games on Thursday night, led by the Seattle Kraken piling up offense on the road in Detroit. The Kraken broke open a close first period, scoring five unanswered between the second and early third before finishing off a 6-3 victory over the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena. Frederick Gaudreau was in the spotlight with a pair of goals, while Berkly Catton and Ben Meyers chipped in multi-point nights. Philipp Grubauer made 37 saves for Seattle.
In Washington, the Capitals shook off an early deficit and skated away 3-1 winners over the New York Rangers. Logan Thompson starred in net with 21 saves. Goals from Timothy Liljegren, Boone Jenner, and a late empty-netter by Tom Wilson powered the home side to the win.
The Blue Jackets emerged with a 3-2 shootout win against Pittsburgh after blowing a two-goal lead. Damon Severson had a goal and an assist, while Kent Johnson netted the lone goal of the shootout. Cam Talbot steered aside 20 shots for Columbus, and Sergei Murashov made 43 saves for the Penguins in a losing cause.
In Winnipeg, the Anaheim Ducks secured a 5-1 win behind timely scoring and a sturdy 15-save performance from Lukas Dostal. Judd Caulfield, Tim Washe, and Jeff Malott all posted two-point games as Anaheim controlled play throughout.
