Hughes scores three as the Avalanche roll
Four NHL preseason games were final Friday.
Friday’s NHL card was four preseason games. Colorado had the loudest night: a 5–2 win over Winnipeg at Ball Arena, with T.J. Hughes scoring three times and adding an assist.
Washington needed overtime to get past Boston, 3–2. The Capitals led 2–0 on power-play goals from Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson, Boston tied it in the third through Morgan Geekie and David Pastrnak, and Jordan Kyrou won it on the power play 11 seconds into overtime. Washington outshot Boston 35–22. Jeremy Swayman stopped 32 of 35 shots; Logan Thompson stopped 20 of 22.
The Rangers scored six times in a 6–1 win at the Islanders and outshot them 27–16. Adam Fox had three assists, and Igor Shesterkin stopped 15 of 16 shots. Dallas beat Minnesota 2–1 even though the Wild had 27 shots to the Stars’ 18. Thomas Harley’s goal at 18:38 of the second, from Mikko Rantanen and Jamie Benn, was the winner. Casey DeSmith stopped 26 of 27.
