On October 9, 2026, the Seattle Kraken defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 at Little Caesars Arena. Frederick Gaudreau scored twice in a four-goal second period, both times finishing passes from Ryan Winterton. Ben Meyers had a goal and two assists, Mackie Samoskevich and Vince Dunn also scored, and Philipp Grubauer made 38 saves in Seattle's first regulation win in Detroit.

William Wallinder scored his first NHL goal at 4:00 of the second to give Detroit a 2-1 lead, but Seattle answered with three goals on its next four shots. Gaudreau scored twice on passes from Ryan Winterton, Mackie Samoskevich scored at 6:59 after a Wallinder turnover, and Meyers made it 5-2 with 5:55 left in the period, 12 seconds after leaving the penalty box. John Gibson allowed five goals on 15 shots and was pulled after the fourth second-period goal. Daniil Tarasov made 10 saves on 11 shots in his Red Wings debut.

Dunn scored on a 5-on-3 power play in the third for a 6-2 lead before Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored his first NHL goal for the 6-3 final. Detroit outshot Seattle 40-24 but went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Kraken improved to 3-2-0 to open a five-game road trip, and Detroit fell to 1-3-0 to close a season-opening four-game homestand.
