A wild NHL slate delivered a pair of hat-tricks, five overtime finishes, and heartbreak for the Canucks in Florida.
Wednesday night in the NHL was filled with dramatic finishes, including five games that needed extra time to decide a winner. Vancouver visited the Panthers and built a two-goal lead, but Brady Tkachuk's natural hat trick, capped in overtime, powered Florida to a 3-2 comeback win. Leevi Meriläinen stopped 36 shots for the Canucks, while Akira Schmid earned the victory for the Panthers.
Toronto and Buffalo put on an offensive show in Toronto, with Kirill Marchenko recording a hat trick for the Leafs, only for Buffalo to erase a two-goal deficit and claim a 5-4 overtime win on Owen Power’s clincher. Jack Quinn had two goals and two assists for Buffalo in the win.
Chicago prevailed in overtime 4-3 on Artyom Levshunov's winner against Winnipeg, and Tampa Bay also took their game past regulation as Victor Hedman netted the OT goal to defeat Seattle 4-3. In Ottawa, Linus Ullmark outdueled Semyon Varlamov as the Senators edged the Islanders 2-1 in a shootout, with Shane Pinto scoring the decisive goal.
Elsewhere in the league, San Jose left Nashville with a 3-2 shootout victory courtesy of Macklin Celebrini, and the Red Wings topped the Flyers 2-1 in Detroit. Minnesota’s Matt Boldy had a four-point night including a hat trick as the Wild held off the Blues 5-4. The New Jersey Devils exploded for seven goals to cruise by the Rangers 7-1, with Luke Hughes scoring twice. Vegas was dominant at home, beating Calgary 6-2 behind a Mark Stone hat trick.
Utah capped off the night with a 4-2 win in Edmonton, powered by a two-goal effort from Clayton Keller and a first star performance from Logan Cooley.
