Full night on the NHL ice

The NHL served up a jam-packed Saturday with shootouts, overtime, and standout performances across North America.

Saturday night brought a packed NHL slate, including shootout finishes, hat tricks, and strong goaltending performances. Vancouver visited New Jersey, where the Devils took control on special teams for a 4-1 win over the Canucks. Linus Karlsson opened the scoring on a Vancouver power play, but New Jersey answered with four straight, featuring two goals and an assist from Nico Hischier and a strong outing in net from Jake Allen, who made 20 saves for the win.

Boston rolled past Philadelphia 5-1 at TD Garden, powered by Fraser Minten's three-point night and supported by Jeremy Swayman's 14-save effort. In Colorado, William Nylander recorded five points and Auston Matthews had four as Toronto stormed to a 6-3 victory over the Avalanche.

The night also saw several close calls decided after regulation. Ottawa erased an early deficit to edge Nashville 3-2 in a shootout on Shane Pinto’s clincher. Montreal’s Jacob Fowler and Detroit’s Daniil Tarasov dueled in a scoreless tie, with Zachary Bolduc netting the lone shootout marker for a 1-0 Canadiens win. Rickard Rakell scored in the shootout to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 victory over Dallas.

Elsewhere, Kirill Kaprizov tallied a hat trick to lead Minnesota past Florida 4-1. Edmonton got two third-period goals to pull away from San Jose in a 3-1 road win, with Vasily Podkolzin named the game’s first star. Utah won its visit to Buffalo 4-1, pulling away after the first period, while Carolina downed Chicago 5-2, highlighted by Jackson Blake’s two-point effort.

Anaheim notched a 4-2 win at Calgary behind a key shorthanded goal from Ryan Poehling and a sturdy night in net from Ville Husso. St. Louis came back from two down to defeat Columbus 5-3, with Jimmy Snuggerud scoring twice and Dylan Holloway recording three assists.

Vegas capped things off with a 2-1 overtime win over Los Angeles, as Mitch Marner scored the power-play winner and added an assist in the extra frame.
