NHL Saturday: Canucks Rally, Wild and Islanders Roll, Overtime Thrillers
Vancouver mounted a third-period comeback at home while several games across the league needed overtime to decide close contests.
It was a packed Saturday night across the NHL, with drama building from coast to coast and action spilling into overtime in several rinks. In Vancouver, the Canucks rallied from a goal down heading into the third to overtake the visiting Calgary Flames 4-1, led by Liam Ohgren’s goal and assist and a strong showing from Leevi Meriläinen in net.
Out east, the New York Islanders shut out the Devils 6-0 behind a 37-save effort from Ilya Sorokin, while the Minnesota Wild put together a 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins, highlighted by two points from Quinn Hughes and a solid night for goalie Jesper Wallstedt.
The Pittsburgh Penguins outlasted the Montréal Canadiens 6-5 in overtime at home, with Tommy Novak playing hero in OT and Nick Suzuki notching a goal and three assists for the visitors. The San Jose Sharks also needed extra time to top the Kings, with Igor Chernyshov scoring in overtime for a 5-4 victory.
Elsewhere, the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Flyers 3-2 in overtime thanks to Shayne Gostisbehere’s power play goal, while the Ottawa Senators picked up a 3-2 win on the road in Toronto. In Columbus, Utah’s Dylan Guenther led the Mammoth to a 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets with three points. Tampa Bay, Nashville, Edmonton, and Colorado also secured wins, with the Avalanche putting on a six-goal display against St. Louis.
On this night, all eight Canadian teams were in action, and fans were treated to comebacks, high-scoring affairs, and tight contests across the board. The PWHL had no games on the schedule.
