A busy NHL night on September 30, 2026

Wednesday night brought high-scoring NHL action and a Penguins shutout.

Three NHL games were decided Wednesday night, each with a different kind of offensive outburst. The Pittsburgh Penguins dominated the Philadelphia Flyers with a seven-goal performance and a shutout from Arturs Silovs to start the slate.

In Philadelphia, Pittsburgh poured on the offense in a 7-0 win over the Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Nick Robertson scored twice for the Penguins, including a shorthanded tally, while Filip Hallander grabbed the game's first star with a goal and two assists. Ville Koivunen had a goal and was named the third star. Arturs Silovs was perfect in net for Pittsburgh, stopping all 19 shots for the shutout. Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar finished with 31 saves on 38 shots.

Out in Toronto, the Maple Leafs edged the New York Islanders 2-1 in a tight contest at Scotiabank Arena. Colton Sissons and Easton Cowan had first-period markers to stake the Leafs to an early lead, while Emil Heineman put the Islanders on the board shorthanded in the third. Anthony Stolarz picked up the game's first star with 26 saves for Toronto.

The highest-scoring affair came in Denver, where the Colorado Avalanche topped the Los Angeles Kings 8-4 at Ball Arena. Nathan MacKinnon led the way for Colorado with two goals, earning first star honors. Brock Nelson had a goal and two assists, while Artturi Lehkonen added two of his own. Darcy Kuemper was in net for Los Angeles, giving up eight goals on 29 shots, while Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 27 of 31 for the Avalanche.

There were no PWHL games on the night.
