On October 8, 2026, the Ottawa Senators defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 at Canadian Tire Centre in their home opener. Nick Cousins tipped Tyler Kleven's point shot past Joseph Woll at 10:14 of the first for a 1-0 lead. Matvei Michkov tied it 1-1 on the power play at 7:46 of the second, tapping in a loose puck after Trevor Zegras' shot trickled through Linus Ullmark.

Carter Yakemchuk scored the winner on the power play at 13:01 of the third, one-timing Claude Giroux's feed from the point clean past Woll. Ullmark made 28 saves for Ottawa, which improved to 3-1-0. Woll stopped 24 shots for Philadelphia, which opened the season with five straight games without a win for the first time since 2008-09. The Flyers went 1-for-4 on the power play and had a 5-on-3 for 27 seconds in the third without converting.

William Eklund left with a lower-body injury in the first period after Simon Benoit hit him into the boards and did not return. Ottawa coach Travis Green had no update on Eklund's condition after the game.
