On October 8, 2026, the Colorado Avalanche beat the Calgary Flames 7-3 at Scotiabank Saddledome. Cale Makar scored twice in his hometown and added an assist. Devon Toews and Jaden Schwartz also had two goals apiece, and Nathan MacKinnon scored with two assists. Colorado bounced back from a 3-2 loss in Winnipeg on Wednesday and improved to 3-1-0.

The Avalanche scored three times in less than five minutes in the second period to turn a 1-1 tie into a 4-1 lead. MacKinnon scored at 11:39 of the second on a one-timer after a 1:44 offensive-zone shift. Makar added his second of the game at 5:35 of the third from the top of the left circle.

Scott Wedgewood made 26 saves in his season debut and 200th NHL game. Devin Cooley had 23 stops for Calgary, which remained winless at 0-4-0 with a league-worst minus-17 goal differential. Adam Klapka, Mikael Backlund, and Kevin Bahl scored for the Flames. T.J. Hughes recorded his first NHL point on an assist to Schwartz, and Brent Burns tied Chris Chelios for 10th on the all-time defenseman points list.
