Montreal Canadiens vs Colorado Avalanche Game Analysis — Saturday, January 4, 2025
By Hockey in 60
Both teams recorded 23 shots on goal, so shot volume does not explain Montreal Canadiens’s advantage. The shootout settled a game that was level after overtime. A box score alone cannot determine whether that reflected better chances, finishing or goaltending.
Montreal Canadiens converted 0 of 3 power plays (0.0%); Colorado Avalanche converted 1 of 5 power plays (20.0%). Montreal Canadiens overcame a 1-goal disadvantage in power-play scoring, so its winning edge came from goals recorded outside the power play and the shootout decision. Those goals can include even-strength, shorthanded and empty-net situations.
