Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers Game Analysis — Wednesday, November 27, 2024
By Hockey in 60
Both teams recorded 24 shots on goal, so shot volume does not explain Florida Panthers’s advantage. The difference lay in the number of those shots that became goals, rather than in the number reaching the net. A box score alone cannot determine whether that reflected better chances, finishing or goaltending.
Toronto Maple Leafs converted 1 of 3 power plays (33.3%); Florida Panthers converted 2 of 5 power plays (40.0%). The 1-goal net power-play edge accounted for part of the 4-goal final margin. This identifies special teams as a meaningful scoring difference, without proving how the game would have unfolded with different penalties.
Toronto Maple Leafs won 60% of faceoffs. That is a clear edge in restarts, but faceoff percentage should not be treated as a possession percentage: the totals do not show where the draws occurred or what happened immediately afterwards.
