The Seattle Kraken scored four goals in the second period and beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 at Little Caesars Arena on Friday. Frederick Gaudreau scored twice in the middle frame, both on passes from Ryan Winterton. Ben Meyers had a goal and two assists, Vince Dunn and Mackie Samoskevich also scored, and Philipp Grubauer made 38 saves. John Gibson allowed four goals on nine shots in the second before Daniil Tarasov made his Detroit debut in relief.
Boone Jenner scored his first goal with the Washington Capitals in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers at Capital One Arena on Friday. Igor Shesterkin left at 8:20 of the second period with a lower-body injury after jamming his right leg into the post. Dylan Garand made 11 saves in relief. Timothy Liljegren and Tom Wilson also scored for Washington, and Logan Thompson made 22 saves. Alexis Lafreniere scored for New York, which had won four straight.
Cam Talbot made 20 saves in his Columbus Blue Jackets debut and stopped all three shootout attempts in a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Nationwide Arena on Friday. Kent Johnson scored the only shootout goal. Damon Severson had a goal and an assist, and Mathieu Olivier also scored. Sergei Murashov made 44 saves for Pittsburgh, which has lost three straight.
Rookie Judd Caulfield scored his first NHL goal and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 at Canada Life Centre on Friday for Winnipeg's first regulation loss of the season. Tim Washe and Mikael Granlund each had a goal and an assist. Lukas Dostal stopped 15 of 16 shots. Kyle Connor scored Winnipeg's only goal on a breakaway in his 700th NHL game.
The NHL schedules 14 games on Saturday, October 10. The Philadelphia Flyers visit the Boston Bruins at TD Garden at 1 p.m. Eastern on NHL Network. The Toronto Maple Leafs play the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena at 7 p.m. Eastern on NHL Network. Vancouver plays at New Jersey at 3:30 p.m. Eastern, Edmonton plays at San Jose at 4 p.m. Eastern, and Anaheim visits Calgary at 10 p.m. Eastern along with Los Angeles at Vegas.
